World Cup to be rated through Ceat Cricket Rating

Mumbai 25 February 2003: The Board of Council of Ceat Cricket Ratings and Awards today announced that the world’s biggest cricketing event, the World Cup, would be rated through the Ceat Cricket Rating.

The points system that governs the seven year-old CEAT Cricket Rating will be applied separately to individual performances in each and every match of the ongoing quadrennial event, from the inaugural match played on 9th February to the Final to be played on 23rd March. The player who accumulates the highest aggregate of points at the end of the tournament will be declared the 'CEAT World Cup Cricketer - 2003'. He will receive an award in the next CEAT Cricket Rating Awards Ceremony, where leading performers in the CEAT Cricket Year of 2002-03 will be honoured and felicitated.

The CEAT World Cup Rating was first implemented during the 1999 World Cup. Indian vice-captain Rahul Dravid had topped the rating with 461 runs and a tally of 23 points in the tournament.

As of today, Indian master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, leads the CEAT World Cup Rating with 15 points from a total of 321 runs to his credit out of 4 ODI matches played so far. His spectacular innings of 152 against Namibia helped India win the match, as well as bring Sachin to the top of the CEAT Rating.

He is closely followed by South African opener Herschelle Gibbs who has 12 points from a total of 230 runs out of 3 ODI matches played so far.
