Sanjay
Manjrekar joins Ceat Cricket Rating as Executive Director
Mumbai, 28 November 2002: The
CEAT International Cricket Rating & Awards, a benchmark
for international cricket rating systems, today announced
the appointment of former Test batsman Sanjay Manjrekar
as its Executive Director. The appointment
was announced at the CK Nayudu Hall, Cricket Club of
India, Mumbai.
Ceat International Cricket Rating & Awards was instituted
in 1995 by CEAT Limited, together with three cricketing
legends Clive Lloyd, Ian Chappell and Sunil Gavaskar,
to fulfill a long felt need in the international cricket
arena - the absence of any method of recognizing and
rewarding performances of cricketers at international
level. It is the first, and still the only annual
international cricket rating to award the topper at
the end of a year.
Speaking on the occasion, Sanjay Manjrekar said
"the relevance of a rating system in the highly
competitive scenario of international cricket needs
to be comprehensive in nature, and easy to understand
for the average cricket-lover. The CEAT Cricket Rating
has both the attributes, which has made it a leading
contender for the title of 'The definitive rating
system for international cricket'."
The official website of Ceat International Cricket Rating
& Awards also was launched at the function by Sanjay
Manjrekar. The user friendly website is a boon to the
cricket fraternity, media and fans which carries latest
information and statistics pertaining to the popular
game of cricket and the CEAT ratings & awards. The
website can be accessed at www.ceatcricketrating.org
Mr. Manoj Chandra, Head of Corporate Communications
at CEAT, welcoming Sanjay Manjrekar said, "
We are delighted to have Sanjay with us on the Ceat
International Cricket Rating & Awards and strongly
feel that with his understanding of the game, the CEAT
Ratings will evolve even more to become a benchmark
for cricket rating systems worldwide."
Previous to this, he talked about the growth of the
Ceat International Cricket Rating & Awards from
1995 to 2002 and pointed out that the CEAT International
Cricket Awards had grown from one in 1995-96 to twelve
in 2000-01. He also spoke about the recently launched
monthly Ceat International Cricket Rating & Awards
Newsletter, every edition of which will be circulated
to members of the cricket & media community in India
and overseas. He informed the audience that the 7th
Ceat International Cricket Awards Ceremony for the year
2001-02 would be held in Mumbai in late January 2003,
just before the World Cup. Muttiah Muralitharan, who
topped the Cricketer rating for the second successive
year, and a representative of Australia, the team that
has topped the Team rating for the third time, will
receive their respective awards during the function.
The Ceat International Cricket Rating, now into its
eighth year, comprises a Player rating and a Team rating.
Performances of cricketers and cricket teams in Tests
and one-day internationals from 1st May to 30th April
are tracked and rated through a comprehensive &
easy to understand points system. The player and team
that top the rating are declared the CCR International
Cricketer of the Year and the CCR International Team
of the Year respectively.
Previous winners of the CEAT International Cricketer
of the Year Award are Brian Lara (1995-96), Venkatesh
Prasad (1996-97), Sanath Jayasuriya (1997-98), Jacques
Kallis (1998-99), Sourav Ganguly (1999-00) and Muttiah
Muralitharan (2000-01). The CEAT International Cricket
Team Award has been won by Pakistan (1996-97), Australia
(1997-98 and 1999-00) and South Africa (1998-99 and
2000-01).
