India
dominates CEAT Cricket Ratings.
Mumbai, 4th September 2002: Sachin
Tendulkar's match-winning 193 against England at Leeds
has elevated him to the second spot in the CEAT Cricket
Ratings for the year 2002-03. Sachin's 30th Test hundred
in his 99th Test match has taken his tally of points
to 36, only three points behind the current topper,
West Indian opener Chris Gayle. Incidentally, Sachin
plays his 100th Test this week during the on-going India-England
series.
Only two points behind Sachin is his
teammate Rahul Dravid, who shares the fifth position
with Inzamam-ul-Haq. Dravid has done exceedingly well
in the CEAT year 2002-03, scoring centuries in back-to-back
Tests in England and becoming the second-fastest Indian
after Sunil Gavaskar to complete 5,000 runs in Test
cricket.
An Indian (Sachin Tendulkar or Rahul
Dravid) might well be occupying the top spot by the
time the India-England series ends on the 9th of September.
And they might well be joined at the top by the Indian
team, which currently occupies the second spot in the
CEAT Team Ratings. India has 28 points to its credit
so far and trails current leaders Sri Lanka by seven
points. A victory in the final Test against England,
besides giving India the series, will also take the
side to the top of the Team Ratings.
The annual CEAT Cricket Ratings,
now in their eighth year, take into account all international
cricket played between the 1st of May and the 30th of
April. The Player and Team Ratings for the year 2001-02
were topped by Sri Lankan Muttiah Muralitharan and Australia
respectively.
