Sandpiper CEAT Best Match-Winning Performance - V.V.S. Laxman

The Indians (down 0-1 in the series) who trailed by 274 runs in the first innings of the second Test against Australia at Kolkatta (March 2001) were asked to follow on. The Indian team was resurrected in a spectacular fashion by V.V.S Laxman, who scored a magnificent 281 - the highest individual score made by an Indian in Test cricket.

He also became the first Indian to score over 250 in a Test innings. His and Rahul Dravid's heroic batsmanship helped the Indian side amass a total of 657-4 in the second innings. The Aussies who were set a target of 384, collapsed for a paltry 212, thus giving a resurgent Indian side and unexpected victory by 171 runs. Laxman's innings inspired his teammates to win not only the Kolkatta Test but also the Series.
